Michael Strahan's new activewear line is for everybody -- and every body

Updated

Michael Strahan has long legs, a short torso and overall, a body that he calls "all jacked up."

That may not be surprising coming from a former NFL player. Even casual or non-fans know what professional athletes have to go through to maintain their strength and abilities. But Strahan's body type, while great for a defensive end, created difficulty in another aspect of his life: finding clothes to wear to the gym.

Thus the idea for his own activewear line was born. The Super Bowl champion and adored television personality partnered with Blink Fitness to release 7 pieces of affordable fitness clothing within his MSX By Michael Strahan line, which first launched in JCPenney in 2016. The athleisure line includes all fits and sizes, for men and boys up to big and tall and everything in between.

"It was definitely born out of necessity," Strahan told AOL.com of the collection. "I just wanted something that was comfortable. Something that I can go to the gym in; that I can sit on the couch in; that, if I do have to shoot to work, I can go to work in and feel like I can present myself in a positive way."

Strahan felt Blink was the perfect partner for the athleisure line because of how the gym values quality and inclusion, the same principles he focused on with his own brand.

As far as his own fitness routine goes, Strahan says he often works out harder now than he did when he was with the New York Giants, hitting the gym for five or six days a week and sometimes staying for up to two hours – or just getting in 20 minutes when he can.

"I love to work out, I love to be active," he said. "To me, it's just important to move, and I think that's what people need to understand. Just be active."

Strahan prides himself on the aspects of his collection that allow people, both gym rats and newcomers, to feel comfortable and like they're getting a good bang for their buck. Details like fast-drying fabrics and automatic-lock zippers are part of what make the clothes functional for all body types and fitness levels.

"You can give people all those things and all that quality at a price they really can afford," Strahan, who touches every single fabric, said of the creation process. "That's what I'm most proud of."

MSX By Michael Strahan began in 10 Manhattan, New York, Blink Fitness locations but is now available in stores nationwide. The expansion also aligns with the release of Blink's Personalized Mobile Companion, a first-of-its-kind feature within the Blink app that curates a daily, personalized content feed for gym members based on their own goals and interests.
