Meghan Markle announces her plans for International Women's Day

Meghan Markle will be working on March 8th, also known as International Women's Day.

On Friday, the palace announced that the Duchess of Sussex will participate in a panel discussion lead by The Queen's Commonwealth Trust to honor the special day. She will join five other powerful women on the panel, hosted by King's College London, to discuss issues facing women today.

"Her Royal Highness will join the panel to discuss the importance of International Women’s Day, and the spotlight it can bring to obstacles which still affect female empowerment across the world, including access to education and limitations within employment. The discussion will also cover the positive opportunities that come when women are given wider access and equal opportunity, whether that be in the UK or elsewhere in the world," the announcement reads.

The other panelists are former Prime Minister of Australia Julia Gillard, model and founder of Gurls Talk Adwoa Aboa, musician and founder of The Circle Annie Lennox, founder of Let us Learn Chrisann Jarrett and executive director of the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) in Africa Angeline Murimirwa. It will be led by Anne McElvoy, senior editor for The Economist.

Back in 2015 before she was royal (even before she met Harry!), the duchess gave a speech at the UN Women's Conference in NYC for International Women's Day on gender equality.

“It is said that girls with dreams become women with vision. May we empower each other to carry out such vision — because it isn’t enough to simply talk about equality. One must believe it. And it isn’t enough to simply believe in it. One must work at it. Let us work at it. Together. Starting now,” she said.
