It's been a sad day few days for Luke Bryan and his family.

The country star's wife took to Instagram on Wednesday afternoon to share that the family's recently adopted shelter dog Poochie has passed away.

"If the kindest souls were rewarded with the longest lives, dogs would outlive us all,” Caroline Bryan wrote on Instagram. "My heart is sad but full to post this..our sweet Prince Poochie has passed away. He lived 18 years and was loved by so many people."

Bryan and his family made headlines earlier this month when they adopted the 18-year-old pup from Proverbs 1210 Animal Rescue.

The elderly dog was surrendered to the shelter after "his family became allergic." Luke and his wife Caroline were touched after reading Poochie's story on social media, which called out his need for hospice foster. The Bryans set out to adopt him.

"Loving my new buddy," Luke tweeted in response to the news of the adoption a few weeks ago.
