Coach brings 'psychedelic' colors and patterns to NYFW

Updated

While many runways at New York Fashion Week have presented a range of brown, marigold yellow, rust orange and dark green for Fall 2019, Coach went in a different direction. The show, known for being youthful and fun, sprinkled in deep purple florals, blue and red plaids, pink shearling, yellow zebra print, deep teal fur and pops of neon throughout.

Coach Creative Director and British Designer Stuart Vevers told The Guardian backstage that he was "feeling pyschedelic" with color. He looked to Kaffe Fassett, an American-born artist known for his colorful patterns in needlepoint, patchwork, knitting and more. The two collaborated on prints for the show, creating a mix of swirls, foliage and chrysanthemums.

However, this isn't to say that every look was totally out-of-this-world bright. Most patterns and bright colors were layered with darker pieces. And some pieces were all dark, like a mismatched navy and gray plaid suit.

To stick with tradition, a few models showed off faux fur coats and vests in light brown, printed with Coach's signature dark brown C's. The classic pieces were paired with plaid baggy shorts in the first look, a black on black polka dot dress soon after and a bolder printed pink and purple dress later on.

The looks felt young, a little moody and rebellious.
