NYFW: Nicole Miller Fall/Winter 2019

Nicole Miller's New York Fashion Week show brought our grown up grunge dreams to life.

The designer's latest collection made its debut on Thursday night and already has us excited for our future fall wardrobes. A diverse cast of models, dressed in a kaleidoscope of prints (think plaid skirts, tie dyed tights and animal print jackets), walked to pounding music featuring international artists while rocking coral lips and fresh skin.

We caught up with designer Nicole Miller backstage before her show to get the inside scoop on her latest collection.

"I'm very into the sustainable thing, so I started with that end of it -- I got some vintage cashmere sweaters and we were tie dying them and embellishing them and repurposing them. And we also had a lot of vintage denim that we were reusing as trim, and from there I just progressed to making [the collection] a statement about what everybody's involved in. Everybody’s involved in going to work and working out and going out at night and looking for answers."

She went on to explain, "I included horoscope symbols and athletic wear too, so it's kind of a statement about the world today and what concerns us and what we're involved in. From sustainability as far as having fun, it's sort of about a balance."

Miller described to us the essence of the Nicole Miller woman as "she’s a 'girls just want to have fun' girl with a serious spin. She's concerned about the world and she’s concerned about the environment, she’s concerned about politics, but she wants to have fun. She does both things — it's about balance."

It was easy to find the balance she mentioned on the runway. Structured blazers were worn over leather pants, embellished dresses were styled with combat boots and cheeky horoscope prints were paired with suiting separates.
