This is the longest airplane flight in the world

Some people enjoy air travel more than others, but it’s safe to say that no one looks forward to extra-long flights. A person can only tolerate so much time in a cramped cabin 35,000 feet above the ground. No matter how long or short your flight is, make sure you know these 12 tips for staying comfortable on a plane.

For passengers flying from Newark Liberty International Airport in the greater New York City area to Singapore in Southeast Asia, that travel time couldn’t be any longer. Singapore Airlines’ flight from Changi Airport Singapore to Newark lasts an anxiety-inducing 17 hours and 50 minutes. The return trip to Singapore takes even longer, clocking in at 18 hours and 45 minutes, making it the longest flight in the world. Passengers on that flight will be traveling a whopping 9,521 miles—making it the longest by time and distance.

On the inaugural flight in October 2018, the plane left late Thursday night Singapore time and arrived early Thursday morning Newark time; the 13-hour time difference meant that travelers were flying backward in time, in a way. (Travelers on the return trip, the longer flight, left in the morning and arrived in the evening of the following day.) Before October 2018, Qatar Airways held the title of “World’s Longest Flight” with its 17-hour, 40-minute jaunt from Auckland, New Zealand, to Qatar’s capital, Doha. This flight covers only a measly 9,032 miles. If you happen to embark on any of these lengthy flights, you’ll want to prepare for some serious jet lag. And definitely brush up on these 18 things you should never, ever do on an airplane[Sources: Travel & LeisureForbes]
