Applebee's newest tropical cocktail involves a gummy shark

Ellie Conley

Over the past year and half, Applebee's has positioned itself as a happy hour destination, introducing new monthly drink specials starting at $1. Most have been classics like the Long Island iced tea, Absolut and lemonade, a Bahama Mama and a margarita (cleverly named the Dollarita). But, their latest drink special, the Shark Bowl, is a new one.

Applebee's announced the new drink yesterday on their Facebook page. "The shark that you'll swim towards. Our new Shark Bowl mucho is mixed with Captain Morgan and topped with a gummy shark," the post reads.

After further investigation, sources confirmed that the Shark Bowl is a 12-ounce frozen slushy that mixes in tropical fruit flavors with the famous rum. You can get one starting today for $7.50 (prices may vary depending on location).

The timing of this drink seems a little random, because no, it's not shark week. However, Applebee's other drink of the month includes a $2 Captain and Cola. So, we can only assume that the restaurant chain is trying to get us out of the cold and into vacation mode — easy to do when there are tropical drinks at the ready.

The Shark Bowl is only being sold for a limited time at participating restaurants, so call ahead or check online to see if your nearest location is serving. While you're there, you can check out Applebee's new all-you-can-eat riblets, shrimp, chicken tenders and fries.
