Holiday Heroes: Bringing Christmas Joy to Children in Need
Every holiday has its unsung hero, and AOL's video series "Holiday Heroes" highlights those individuals who are making a difference in their communities.
It started with just one email.
And now, for the 7th year in a row, New Jersey resident Jim Gibney and his elves are providing over 350 children with the Christmas gifts of their dreams. The project began with 60 children and has now become the "widest provider of gifts to YCS in the state of New Jersey."
"I'm blown away by it," said Gibney, "Senior Chief Elf," to AOL Lifestyle.
The Youth Consultation Services is an organization that cares for kids who have been taken away from their parents. The organization cares for 1600 children, from residences to foster care to outpatient services, every single day.
"They just need someone to care about them," Gibney continued.
Each year, YCS holds a gift drive to help provide holiday gifts for kids in need. Each child receives a special gift with the help of local donors and friendly volunteers. Gibney employs the help of his wife, kids and friends to make sure these kids' holiday wishes are fulfilled.
