Melania Trump's best looks in 2018

Updated

2018 was quite the year for Melania Trump.

Like the year prior, it was filled with a slew of controversial outfits, many of which provoked quite the backlash from FLOTUS critics. Whether it was the message behind an accessory (the colonial-era hat that she wore in Nairobi) or the literal message on her back (the "I really don't care, do you?" jacket she donned while visiting a migrant center in Mexico), the first lady will forever be, both during and after her husband's presidency, subjected to scrutiny.

It's the nature of the job -- what she says, and wears, matters.

However, 2018 was also a year of Trump finding her style as first lady. We saw her moving away from ultra-expensive outfits -- like that $51K Dolce & Gabbana floral jacket -- and finding a more attainable balance with her wardrobe.

Though she may seem to own more Christian Louboutins than anyone needs in a lifetime, FLOTUS also opted for affordable brands such as J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, and Adidas this year, all while maintaining that "first lady" allure with high fashion names like Chanel and Valentino. Tha yellow J. Mendel gown was probably our favorite!
