CoverGirl is officially the largest cruelty-free certified makeup brand

When it comes to makeup, there are a ton of brands available—but only a small portion are cruelty-free (meaning they don’t test products on animals). Add to the list? CoverGirl. The cosmetics brand just got “Leaping Bunny” certified by Cruelty Free International, and we’re admittedly so, so excited.

What does that mean, exactly? (So glad you asked.) For starters, the brand will have to follow the Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals, aka “The Standard.” Aside from the obvious (no animal testing), it also means the brand can’t purchase ingredients from second parties that use animal testing and must monitor their supply chain to ensure this doesn’t happen. They also can’t implement animal testing to sell products in foreign markets and must reapply every year. So, yeah, it’s kind of a big deal.

According to a press release, the brand has never tested on animals, but the Leaping Bunny certification makes CoverGirl the largest makeup brand to bear the seal (and at a time when more and more consumers are looking to align their purchases with their values).

An affordable, high-quality, Fido-friendly makeup brand? We give it four, um, paws up.
