The major way Meghan Markle’s pregnancy already differs from Kate’s

Royal fans have been celebrating the happy news of Meghan Markle’s pregnancy since Kensington Palace announced it on October 15. The announcement came the same day she and her husband arrived in Australia for their 16-day royal tour, which has also taken them to New Zealand, Tonga, and Fiji. It’s thanks to Meghan’s good health thus far in her pregnancy that she’s still able to travel. Her sister-in-law Kate Middleton wasn’t nearly so lucky. As you’ll surely remember if you’ve kept up with past royal pregnancies, Kate experienced a severe form of morning sickness, hyperemesis gravidarum, during all three of her pregnancies. So international travel was out of the question for the expectant Duchess of Cambridge. For instance, she had to cancel a solo trip to Malta after becoming pregnant with Princess Charlotte. The severity of her morning sickness also forced her to announce her pregnancies earlier than she’d wanted to.

Meanwhile, Kensington Palace has reported on multiple occasions that the expectant Meghan is in “good health.” She has, however, made some changes to her Australia itinerary because of her baby on the way. On October 21, Kensington Palace reported that “The Duke and Duchess have decided to cut back The Duchess’s schedule slightly for the next couple of days.” A royal aide has assured the public that Meghan just needs rest, saying, “She isn’t sick, she just had a tiring few days.” Here’s hoping she’ll remain healthy throughout her entire pregnancy. If she does experience some morning sickness, though, she’ll absolutely be able to commiserate with her fellow Duchess. Next, learn about the clever ways royals have hidden their pregnancies.
