NYFW: Oscar de la Renta puts a casual twist on evening wear

Updated

The Oscar de la Renta Spring 2019 collection was presented on Tuesday morning high above Manhattan on the rooftop of Spring Street Studios.

While the fashion world mourned the death of the legendary man behind the brand when Mr. De La Renta passed away in 2014, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, founders of the label Monse and the new creative directors at Oscar de la Renta, have breathed new life into the fashion house.

While Oscar de la Renta is known for red-carpet-worthy ball gowns, and not to mention ultra-dreamy wedding dresses, the Spring 2019 collection came down the runway with a more modern and casual twist. From mini dresses finished with fringe to ikat patterned pant suits and patchwork dresses, it seems as if there has been a new vibe applied to the iconic brand.

However, the fresh designers haven't strayed far from the essence of the label as more classic looks also walked down the catwalk, including a black ball gown with a plunging neckline and feathered skirt. And we would be remiss to not mention the tiered gold gown that seemed to float across the NYC rooftop.

A cast of new faces joined seasoned vets, including Grace Elizabeth and the Hadid sisters, Gigi and Bella, on the runway, as the front row was stacked with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Amber Heard, Sofia Richie, Kate Beckinsale, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Nicky Hilton Rothschild.
