NYFW: Rodarte triumphantly returns to New York Fashion Week

Updated

While Rodarte had previously been on a two-year hiatus, the LA-founded fashion house returned to New York Fashion Week on Sunday to debut its Spring 2019 collection.

And a very welcome comback it was. Guests made their way to the New York City Marble Cemetery in Manhattan's East Village to attend the show despite the rain. While a dreary Sunday isn't typically the ideal setting for an outdoor runway show, it actually played well with the juxtaposition of the graveyard setting and the garden-inspired collection of couture gowns to turn the drizzly afternoon into a dreamlike scene.

Ruffles, ribbons, piles of tulle and intricate veils made their way down the runway, each look more attention-grabbing than the last. From a tiered sky-blue gown with yellow and green florals to a buttoned up black leather mini dress with ruffled shoulders, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sisters behind the label, gave us an extravagant look for nearly every fancy occasion on the social calendar.

Each couture look was complemented by an elaborate hairstyle that was primarily comprised of loose, messy curls and an abundance of flowers. "The hair is inspired by a rose garden," explained the designers in a press release. "It's romantic and natural. It's all about individuality and what looks best on each model's features."

From powder pinks to sunny yellows and vivid purples, Rodarte made sure to from its hiatus bigger and better than ever.
