Having *this* color front door could add $6,271 to the value of your home

Every Fixer Upper fan worth her weight in shiplap knows that a fresh coat of paint can make a big impact. How big, exactly? According to real estate marketplace Zillow, we’re talking thousands of dollars here, people.

Zillow looked at more than 135,000 photos from sold homes around the country to determine how certain color hues impacted the sale price when compared to similar abodes with white walls. Ready for the results? Drumroll, please…

Apparently, homes with charcoal gray or black front doors typically sold for $6,271 more than expected. Wowza.

Equally surprising was the discovery that tuxedo kitchens (i.e., those where the upper and lower cabinets are painted in two different colors), sell for a $1,547 premium. The most popular shades were white or light-colored uppers with dark navy or black lowers. (So chic.)

When it comes to bathrooms, those with pale to periwinkle blue walls sold for a whopping $2,786 more than their white counterparts. And homes with light taupe living rooms (especially those with tan, peach or pink undertones) sold for a staggering $2,793 more.

Moral of the story? It’s definitely time to pick up some paint swatches.
