Aldi whisky was just named one of the best in the world

It’s not hard to see why Aldi is everyone’s go-to—including ours. The shopping experience is quick and friendly, cashiers are well-paid and Aldi offers low prices without skimping on quality. That legendary value-for-quality extends past its grocery items, too. Aldi whisky is among the best in the world—and one bottle only costs $17.

Judges at the Scotch Whisky Masters, a blind tasting of Scotch Whisky brands from around the globe, gave Gold medals to two Aldi whiskys, the Glen Marnoch Islay Single Malt and the Highland Black 8-Year-Old Scotch. The Highland Black, which The Spirits Business describes as having hints of “heather, strawberry leaf [and] lemon oil,” retails for a mere $17. (The Islay Single Malt is also a bargain at around $23.)

This isn’t the first time Aldi whisky has earned praise. The same two whiskies also won Silver at this year’s International Spirits Challenge. In both competitions, Aldi beat out other brands that cost way more than its own whisky!

Next time you’re entertaining whisky drinkers—or if you’re a whisky fan yourself—it looks like there’s no need to shell out for top-shelf liquor. Aldi whisky is just as good as the more prestigious brands, so why pay more?

(Here’s why all Aldi’s store brands are so dang great.)

More Spirited Bargains at Aldi

For anyone who’s not a whisky drinker, Aldi has other prize-winning beverages. The brand’s Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin ($13) was named one of the world’s best at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. The Exquisite Collection Cotes de Provence rosé ($8) took home a Silver medal at the International Wine Challenge and reportedly, Celine Dion asked for some rosé but the chain had already sold out!

Head to your Aldi and pick up the Highland Black 8-Year-Old Scotch, along with five more must-buy items.
