Queen Elizabeth gave Meghan Markle a special gift for their first solo outing together

Updated

Queen Elizabeth gave Meghan Markle a little sparkle for their first outing together.

The monarch gave her new granddaughter-in-law a breathtaking pair of pearl and diamond drop earrings to wear during their appearance together on Thursday. The queen regularly sports pearl jewelry pieces and they have continued to be her go-to accessories through the years.

And given that Meghan is now part of the royal family, she'll have access to the queen's jaw-dropping jewelry collection. Duchess Kate has borrowed some standout pieces from the queen through the years, including the Cartier 'Halo' tiara that she wore on her wedding day in 2011.

Just like her wedding day, Meghan stepped out in a Givenchy ensemble for Thursday's outing. The Duchess of Sussex played it safe in a high-necked, off-white sheath dress that she paired with black accessories -- heels, a clutch and a slim belt.

Meanwhile, the queen stood out in a lime green Stewart Parvin coat with a matching hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan.
