Met Gala 2018: The internet wasn't a fan of Selena Gomez's beauty look

Updated

Selena Gomez always steals the show no matter which red carpet she hits -- and Monday night's Met Gala was no exception.

The brunette beauty channeled The Bible's Queen Esther in a gauzy, layered dress designed by Coach, but it was her beauty look that attracted the most attention on social media.

Selena looked like a glowing goddess in a look by celeb makeup artist Hung Vanngo. Vanngo used a variety of Kiehl's skincare products to prep the singer's skin (Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser and Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream are some of our favorites). He then used a variety of products for Sel's makeup, including a foundation and bronzer by Marc Jacobs Beauty.

However, many on Twitter were quick to point out that the 25-year-old star might have overdone it with the bronzer, spray tan or possibly both.

One user wrote that her spray tan looked "disastrous":

"Who did Selena Gomez's makeup for the met gala I just wanna talk," one user posted on Twitter.

Another user posted a meme of "Friends" character Ross after an unfortunate spray tan mishap.

Selena also garnered "Spongebob" comparisons:

But depending on the light, Selena's makeup looks just right (and not too overly bronzed). Lighting is clearly everything, people!

Monday night's event -- known as the "Oscars of the East" -- brought a star-studded crowd to The Met in New York City. For all the looks of the night, check out the slideshow below:
