Ivanka Trump returns to ruffles in an $1,085 dress -- but not everyone's a fan

Just days ago, her $12,888 ruffled Rodarte gown for the state dinner divided fashion critics and sparked complaints about its cost. But there’s just no keeping Ivanka Trump from splurging on a frilly frock.

On Thursday night she sported a similarly frothy design for the Team USA Awards in Washington, which honored Olympic athletes. The president’s eldest daughter made the scene in the black-and-white Nalani fit-and-flare lace midi dress by Alexis, which retails for $1,085.

(FILES) Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner arrive for a joint press conference by US President Donald Trump and Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the East Room of the White House on February 15, 2017 in Washington, DC. While the new US president has shown a capacity to change, both his tone and his positions, he has been unable to show the world a 'new' Trump, with a steady presidential style and a clearly articulated worldview. As the symbolic milestone of his 100th day in power, which falls on April 29, 2017, draws near, a cold, hard reality is setting in for the billionaire businessman who promised Americans he would 'win, win, win' for them. At this stage of his presidency, he is the least popular US leader in modern history (even if his core supporters are still totally behind him.) / AFP PHOTO / MANDEL NGAN / TO GO WITH AFP STORY, US-politics-Trump-100days (Photo credit should read MANDEL NGAN/AFP/Getty Images)

That’s a steep price tag for one dress, but the White House adviser presumably saved on her footwear. The black satin heels with a faux-gem buckle detail are the Beven 2 style from her own Ivanka Trump shoe range. Practical!

Clearly, the first daughter — who spent the evening with the nation’s top Olympic and Paralympic athletes — has an unapologetic love for ultrafeminine ruffles, tiers, and frills. If she can afford it, who are we to stop her?

Not everyone was a fan, however. Though many Trump devotees praised the look, it was dismissed as “frumpy” by London’s Express newspaper, which said it “swamped her petite figure.” Twitter critics also couldn’t resist making a few jabs, with one commenter calling the dress “matronly” and the buckled shoes more appropriate for Thanksgiving.

Everyone’s a critic!
