Kate Middleton had serious cash before marrying Prince William

Kate Middleton became the Duchess of Cambridge after marrying Prince William.

You’d think that would have made her into a wealthy woman, since the royal family has an $88 billion dollar fortune. But back when she was just Kate, she was sitting pretty on top of a pile of cash.

We're talking an estimated $7 million at the very least, but some numbers say she came into the marriage with $10 million. The figures come from global wealth-tracking firm Wealth-X, and were reported by Money and the International Business Times.

Most of the cash comes from Party Pieces, an online party supplies business her parents started, because it’s thought to be worth around $50 million!

When former actress Meghan Markle marries Prince Harry on May 19th, she’ll get to keep most of her money, too, which comes in at around $5 million.

If the Duchess of Cambridge got a piece of the action of what’s known as the "Kate effect," she’d have even more money on hand!

And by "Kate effect" we mean whenever she wears something, it pretty much sells out everywhere.
