Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have requested donations to charity in lieu of wedding gifts

Updated

The royal wedding is coming around fast. In a little more than two months time, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will marry in the most-anticipated nuptial of the year. Final touches are being decided for the May 19th celebration at St. George's Chapel, including the wedding flowers, cake and other guest details.

In lieu of gifts, however, the royal couple has requested that guests consider donating to one of 7 selected charities. The organizations were chosen by Meghan and Prince Harry, and represent a "range of issues that they are passionate about," including social change, HIV awareness, the environment and homelessness.

Wrote Kensington Palace on Monday morning:

Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle are incredibly grateful for the goodwill shown to them since the announcement of their engagement and are keen that as many people as possible benefit from this generosity of spirit. The couple have therefore asked that anyone who might wish to mark the occasion considers making a donation to charity, rather than sending a wedding gift.
