Meghan Markle's beret has a sweet Princess Diana connection

Meghan Markle may have followed Kate Middleton‘s lead by turning up at Westminster Abbey in her finest white threads, but she’s not getting married just yet.

Prince Harry‘s bride-to-be did, however, seem to be in a bridal mood as she joined her fiancé and future in-laws Prince William and a navy-clad Middleton for the royal family’s Commonwealth Day service at the iconic London chapel, site of the 2011 royal wedding. Commonwealth Day recognizes the member states formerly under British rule, including Canada, Australia, Gibraltar, Kenya, Bangladesh, and Jamaica.

While Middleton opted for a wide-brimmed fedora and matching Beulah London coat, Markle echoed her Christmas Day outfit by Sentaler and Philip Treacy.

The Suits star wore a sculpted cream Crombie coat — yours for $1,199 — by British designer Amanda Wakeley, over a navy dress. She accessorized the look with a Mulberry bag in navy, Manolo Blahnik heels, and a jaunty white beret by the milliner Stephen Jones.

Jones is a familiar name to royal watchers. The late Princess Diana also wore many berets he designed. “She really loved the world of fashion, and she liked the people in it,” the designer told British Vogue last year. “It was an escape for her.”

It’s not Markle’s only sartorial nod to her future husband’s mother; her engagement ring also contains two diamonds that once belonged to Diana.
