This is the worst day to go out to dinner, according to a master chef

Nothing’s better than taking a break from cooking for a night and letting someone else do the work for you. But when is the best time to dine out if you truly want to get the best quality of food? Master chef Gordon Ramsay revealed to Delish the day you should absolutely avoid going out.

It’s not unusual for restaurants to fall a tad below par on busier days. With so much food to prepare, it’s unsurprising that the chefs aren’t able to put all of their love and effort into each and every dish—despite how much they may want to. (If you do decide to dine out though, here are some foods that chefs never order—and you shouldn’t either.)

Never order fish on a Monday.
Skip Kobe beef. The price and small portions outweigh its quality.
Chicken in restaurants is overpriced and poor quality. That being said, restaurants often give customers too much -- it's not healthy.

So besides avoiding busy restaurants on the weekends, when should customers really consider cooking at home instead? “Valentine’s Day is the worst day of the year to go out,” Ramsay says. “Busy kitchens with tons of diners means you don’t get the true feeling of the restaurant. You should be cooking on Valentine’s. What’s more romantic than a meal cooked for your partner with a good bottle of wine?”

According to the National Restaurant Association, Ramsay is right. In fact, 25 percent of the American population dines out on Valentine’s Day. Fortunately, there are plenty of other more cost-effective ways to spend Valentine’s Day. (Here are some foods that are proven to spark romance any day of the year!)
