NYFW: Models proudly show off breast cancer scars at NYFW

These models at New York Fashion Week had a story to tell: All had been diagnosed with various stages of breast cancer.

At the Ana Ono Intimates show, emceed by Mira Sorvino, models proudly showed off their mastectomy scars as they made their way down the catwalk.

Designer Dana Donofree said this was an opportunity to show that these women are “no different” than any other people you may see in your daily life and that even though they have visible scarring they are still “empowered, strong, and sexy.”

It was the second annual show organized in partnership with non-profit #Cancerland.

Cancer patient Anna Crollman told the News and Observer that she signed up to model this year after seeing the show broadcast on Facebook Live last year and says she “sobbed tears of joy.”

She said she wanted to show that, “Breast Cancer is more than pink ribbons and 5ks, it is real women like me dying in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.”
