NYFW: Carolina Herrera takes a bow with timeless final collection

Updated

After a whirlwind 37-year career, renowned designer Carolina Herrera has said farewell.

Monday night's New York Fashion Week Show debuted her ready-to-wear fall collection as Herrera's final line as creative director. Taking her bow 72 shows later, Wes Gordon will be swooping in for next season.

Always timeless, Herrera's newest collection lived up to her name. From sophisticated workwear to Herrera's notable evening gowns, her last line covered all the bases of her glamorous vision. What began with simple officewear ended in Academy Award-like magic.

The procession took off with Herrera's classic work uniform -- crisp white shirts and simple black skirts. Day dresses, silky and colorful silhouettes followed in suit, lighting up the runway in oranges, yellows and reds. Continuing in tribute to the designer was a collection of her eveningwear: ball skirts and belts of all different palates, all topped with, again, the crisp white shirt.

For her new collection, Herrera also dabbled in printed coats, feathers, wrap dresses and the like. Perhaps the most notable look of the night included a ruby red off-the-shoulder ball gown with Herrera's name written all over it.

Until next fashion week, Mr. Gordon.
