NYFW: alice + olivia reflects on the past with empowering Fall 2018 line

Updated

If you're an alice + olivia person, then you know that Stacey Bendet is all about color, texture and shimmer. Her palate and print-heavy designs, beloved by It-girls all around, knows no bounds. Everything is fair game for Bendet, who has been designing her contemporary line since 2002.

"The alice + oliva girl is fun. She's fierce and she's very feminine," explained Bendet to AOL Lifestyle. Of course, Bendet's Fall 2018 line evoked such a concept, manifested in goth chic skirts, bold, studded leather and unforgiving rainbow ensembles.

One of our favorite looks? A gorgeous lilac floor-length ruffled dress, predicted to be thecolor trend for next fall.

Dispersed along the venue, behind the models, was a vibrant rainbow scheme. Books of all hues took over Bendet's presentation, no doubt emphasizing the creative's vision of inclusion and diversity.

"This is a woman's university. Some of the ideas we focused on were equal rights, equal pay, and women's reproductive rights," Bendet asserted. "So you'll see some of those themes coming through."

A presentation like Tuesday's at NYFW allows the audience members to truly immerse themselves in Bendet's imagination from the moment they walk through the door. From the playlist blasting through the speakers, to whichever wallpaper decorates the walls, to the positioning of the models, Bendet has the power.

"I can tell a story... I feel like I'm creating theater as opposed to the runway, which is a little more stylized."

She concluded, "The overall theme was to reflect on the past and change the future. When you see what women have gone through, what they've overcome, I think it should empower women right now to see that we can make a change now, too."
