NYFW: Jason Wu Fall 2018 jewels up for his ready-to-wear collection

Updated

Jason Wu looked to the jewels to create his Fall 2018 collection.

For his new ready-to-wear line, the beloved designer sought inspiration from Italian architects and designers Ettore Sottass and Michele De Lucchi to rouse his designs.

Likewise, Wu's runway was filled with linear but loose silhouettes, evening sheaths, slips and tailored tops all in monochromatic colors. Black, gray, navy and deep emerald greens flashed on the runway, as did the occasional ruby. It-girl Belle Hadid donned an impressive oversized Wu coat, and corset-like heels. The shoes were a collaboration with Manolo Blahnik.

Particularly inspired by De Lucchi's and Sottass' emerging work in jewelry, Wu spiced things up for his new collection. Emblazoned on the sheaths, jackets and dresses were scattered Swarovski crystals.

"I spent my entire life trying to move here. I feel like it’s my responsibility to bring some happiness and joy to what I still believe to be a very important city for fashion," Wu said. "I want the collection to have a sense of calm elegance and be quite optimistic."

He most certainly achieved that with the finale, which featured a sheer tulle white dress adorned with the gems. It was an elegant number serving as the highlight of the night.
