Chanel Haute Couture Week: Spring 2018

Updated

When you think of Paris Fashion week -- and more specifically, Paris Haute Couture Week -- there's one designer who reigns supreme: Chanel.

Monday's show embodied all that the leading French couture house has to offer: Lush gardens, dancing fountains, succulent roses. It was a show that replicated the Parisian aura, topped off with Karl Lagerfeld's classic and intricate creations.

It began with models dressed in Chanel's recognizable tweed suits sashaying down the runway, followed by light tulle evening wear.

Making her couture debut was 16-year-old Kaia Gerber, complete in a voluminous pink pastel minidress with detailed beading and French veil. It was her third appearance with Chanel as mom Cindy Crawford cheered her on.

Of course, it was these gowns, complete with complicated beading, pastel-colored chiffon ensembles and a dabble in metallic creations that sang Chanel. The last look, which was accompanied by Lagerfeld's godson Hudson Kroenig, featured an elaborate bridal tux, complete with a button-down bodice, feathered skirt and white pants.

"It was a sly demonstration that the unabashedly pretty could also be liberating...In case there was any doubt about who he thought was going to wear the pants, going forward," wrote the New York Times about the look.
