All eyes were on Duchess Kate's ring finger during visit to hospital

Updated

Duchess Kate stole the show in a bright red coat from Boden during a visit to the Great Ormond Street Hospital on Wednesday morning, but all eyes were on her ring finger for one reason.

For the outing, the 36-year-old royal was without her iconic sapphire and diamond engagement band, which once belonged to Princess Diana. Instead, she opted for her simple gold wedding band.

The reason for Kate's missing engagement ring? The hospital has a strict policy when it comes to wearing jewelry. The mother of Princess Charlotte and Prince George would have had to thoroughly sanitize her hands before touring the hospital's treatment areas, making it best for Kate to leave her fancy jewelry behind at home.

The stunning engagement ring, which Kate is rarely seen without, features 14 solitaire diamonds surrounding a 12-carat oval blue Ceylon sapphire set in 18-karat white gold. Her simple gold wedding band, on the other hand, is made out of Welsh gold.

Kate completed the rest of her look with a peach frock she previously wore while pregnant with Prince George, a pair of nude tights and some pumps. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting baby No. 3 in April. While the sex of their bundle of joy has yet to be revealed, some have speculated that it is indeed a girl due to the color of Kate's outfit during a recent outing.
