Baltimore ranks number one in bed bug infestations

Known for its rich historical significance, hard-hitting sports teams and crab cakes, Baltimore is now known for something much smaller -- bed bugs.

Pest control company, Orkin, ranked Baltimore the number one city for bed bugs on its 'Top 50 Bed Bug Cities' list for the second year in a row.

The list is based on most commercial and residential treatments from December 2016 to November 2017.

Scarier still, just 40 miles from Baltimore, Washington D.C. was ranked number two on the list, and Chicago was ranked number three.

The bed bug industry was worth an estimated $611.2 million in 2016, and that number could reach $1 billion in five years, according to Specialty Consultants.

To make matters worse, four out of five hotels surveyed had been treated for bed bugs in the past year, so pay extra careful attention to the reviews.
