Is the New Year's tree the 'new' Christmas tree?

The week after Christmas, Americans across the country are already thinking they need to get rid of their Christmas tree. But maybe you should be thinking of adopting an old Russian tradition and turn your tree into a New Years tree.

The tradition of celebrating the New Year with a tree dates back to 1500s Germany and remains popular in Russia.

So do you need to get a whole new tree to adopt the tradition? No!

Simply get rid of some of the Christmas tree decorations and swap for more festive metallic ones.

This ‘balloon tree’ has a great ‘countdown’ theme and is easy to do.

Or simply swap the star at the top of the tree for a festive new years hat.

And don’t forget to add lots of tassels and ribbons. The whole family can help.
