This is how much more flights will cost in 2018

Every now and then, you can find a seemingly one-in-a-million grand slam of a flight deal. This airline, for example, can fly you to Europe for $99. But those dream deals are far from the norm, and don’t represent the typical travel package.

Looking ahead to a new year of travel, you should always follow your best judgment when it comes to budgeting travel, and having some price statistics at the ready definitely helps. Fortunately, the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) has you covered.

Their annualGlobal Travel Forecast gives some insight into, you guessed it, travel expenses for the new year. And, unfortunately, they’re predicting a 3.5 percent price hike when it comes to airline travel and a 3.7 percent price hike when it comes to hotels. Over the past thirty years or so years, the average cost of airline travel has plummeted, so travelers have that going for them, which is nice.

The bump might seem minuscule, but for seasoned travelers, those few bucks per flight can add up. So, for those who have been putting off that regional road trip, 2018 might be the year to knock it out. (Maybe make a drive to any coast—there are plenty of great destinations to choose from.)
