There’s a word for when your ex appears during the holidays

Just when you thought your ex had disappeared for good, Christmas rolls around and he or she comes out of the woodwork. Well, there’s actually a term for the once a year holiday phenomenon.

It’s called ‘Marleying’.

The name comes from Ebenezer Scrooge's ghost business partner, Jacob Marley, who appears out of nowhere on Christmas Eve after being gone for years.

And if you already have been ‘marleyed’ this holiday season, you’re not alone.

According to E-Harmony 1 in 10 singles will be contacted by exes looking for a fling this Christmas.

So why does it always happen around the holidays? The online dating site claims its the nostalgia of the season that leads to reminiscing about old relationships.

So if the ghost of a past relationship comes back to haunt you this Christmas, just make sure you are both on the same page about rekindling the flame.
