Royal under fire for 'racist' accessory worn at Queen Elizabeth's Christmas lunch

Queen Elizabeth's annual Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace was filled with controversy.

Princess Michael of Kent, who is married to the Queen's cousin Prince Michael, found herself under fire after she wore a "blackamoor" brooch, which is deemed racially insensitive.

The accessory raised eyebrows as Prince Harry's bride-to-be, Meghan Markle, has often spoken out about the racism she experienced as a child. Her father, Thomas Markle, is white, and mother, Doria Ragland, is black.

The princess, who is seen wearing the brooch as she drove through the palace gates, sparked major controversy on social media.

"I hope the Queen is going to ban this racist, horrible woman from any further gatherings. This woman is an embarrassment to the Royal Family," one Twitter user wrote.

Another person posted: "Has no-one noticed the blackamoor pin that Princess Michael of Kent is wearing? Really? Meghan Markle official meets the family and is greeted by THIS?"

This isn't the first time the royal has found herself in the center of controversy. In 2004, she was accused of telling a group of black diners at a New York restaurant to "go back to the colonies" amid a dispute about noise. She staunchly denied the allegations, claiming she said she would be "ready to go back to the colonies."

She later made cringe-worthy comments about the incident in an interview:

"I even pretended years ago to be an African, a half-caste African, but because of my light eyes I did not get away with it, but I dyed my hair black," the princess said. "I traveled on African buses. I wanted to be a writer. I wanted experiences from Cape Town to right up in northern Mozambique. I had this adventure with these absolutely adorable, special people and to call me racist: it's a knife through the heart because I really love these people."

Meghan attended the Queen's annual Christmas lunch for the first time, and though she sat at separate tables from Princess Michael of Kent, they would have likely met at some point during the event. For the occasion, the former "Suits" actress dazzled in a Self Portrait gown that has since sold out online.

A day later, Meghan and Harry released their official engagement portraits, which have received an overwhelming amount of support online. Of course, Meghan dazzled in a $75,000 Ralph & Russo ensemble -- and it was the last dress that many thought she would pick. Check out the video for more on that!
