Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's engagement portraits differ from Kate and William's in major way

Updated

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are not your average royal couple.

The two released three portraits from their "stunningly sexy" engagement photo shoot, and many have noticed how different they are from Duchess Kate and Prince William's 2010 photographs.

In what is perhaps the most intimate images seen from any royal couple, Meghan and Harry flaunted their passionate love for each other in a series of candid snapshots. In two of the photographs, Meghan is seen wearing a $75,000 Ralph & Russo gown. The British-made dress from the Fall 2016 couture collection features a tiered tulle skirt and a see-through bodice decorated with intricate leaf embellishment.

The former "Suits" actress' sheer ensemble was a complete surprise to royal fans due to its revealing style and is a stark contrast from Kate's demure Reiss cream dress she wore for her own engagement shoot.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge commissioned Vogue photographer Mario Testino for their portraits seven years ago in November. At the time, the romantic portraits were considered groundbreaking due to their romantic nature. However, according to body language expert Judy James, Meghan and Harry's photos show an unprecedented level of intimacy that tops Kate and William's.

"While William and Kate opted for some polite snuggling in their photos Harry has raised the bar by wrapping Meghan into his coat," she told Daily Mail.

She added: "Harry is clearly openly happy to let the rest of the world know how happy and in love he is and Meghan's high levels of confidence seem to have allowed him to sidestep the normal formality of a royal romance and show a far more intimate side of their relationship."

Furthermore, Meghan and Harry broke from royal tradition in one major way -- their photos were printed in black and white, something that hasn't been done in royal engagement photos since the introduction of color photography.

Their engagement session was photographed at Frogmore House, a private royal residence in the grounds of Windsor Castle. The romantic snapshots were taken by Alexi Lubomirski, who has shot everyone from Julia Roberts to Angelina Jolie.
