Here's the type of cake Meghan Markle and Prince Harry want at their wedding -- and Dole has offered to make it

Updated

Only more than a week after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement, there have been enough exciting revelations about the upcoming wedding to make any royal fan happy.

Already, we know the date, the venue, the best man, potential guest list and possible bridesmaids. One teensy detail we can now add about the recepetion? The cake!

According to multiple reports, Meghan and Harry hope to have a cake made from bananas at their reception. "This will be the first royal wedding cake made from bananas", a source explained to the Telegraph. It's a break from British custom, where fruit cakes are often part of the wedding tradition.

However, a few sources believe these reports to be false -- one report believes the couple will instead opt for an American-style sponge cake instead.

Wrote the Telegraph, "With Meghan being American, they are more used to having sponge cakes. We find that in actual fact, most couples that come to us also want sponge cakes these days. The traditional rich fruit cake is not very popular now."

The fruit is a favorite of Prince Harry's, who has reportedly been treated to a "caramel and banana cake" by royal chefs since he was young. The prince "loved banana flan, anything with banana really, banana ice cream," as a child, former royal chef Darren McGrady explained in an interview with Hello!

Back in 2016, Meghan possibly used the fruit to share a particularly cryptic photo about her relationship to Instagram, showing two pieces of banana "spooning."

Responding to reports about Harry and Meghan's love for the fruit, Dole Food Company has offered to step in and assist with the creation of the nuptial cake.

"In response to reports Monday that the banana-loving couple is eschewing a traditional British wedding fruitcake for a banana-flavored creation, Dole is offering the services of its 'top banana' executive chef to personally bake the world's most spectacular banana wedding cake," the American company explained in a press release.
