This is Meghan Markle's expected royal title when she marries Prince Harry

There are already so many unanswered questions about the future royal wedding following the announcement of Prince Harry's engagement to Meghan Markle -- including what royal title the actress will take on.

While you'd think that Meghan would take on the title of Princess, that honor is actually reserved for women, like Princess Charlotte, who were born into the royal family.

Instead, the couple will be awarded dukedom by Queen Elizabeth on the day of their wedding. According to Vogue, Harry and Meghan will probably become the Duke and Duchess Sussex. Similarly, William and Kate became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge when they tied the knot in 2011.

However, like any title, the specific dukedom in question must be available at the time which it is given. The dukedom of Sussex has not been filled since 1843, so it is expected that the title be given to Harry and Meghan. The actress' former title will be Her Royal Highness Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, or Duchess Meghan for short.

The 33-year-old royal and 36-year-old actress announced their engagement Monday morning and made their first public appearance together just a few hours after the announcement.

“His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course,” said a statement released by Kensington Palace.

They made their first public appearance together as an engaged couple for a photo call at Kensington Palace's Sunken Garden. Prince Harry looked dapper in a blue suit and black tie, while Meghan donned a Line the Label cream wrap coat over a black dress by P.A.R.O.S.H.

Her ring was reportedly designed by Prince Harry himself, and features a cushion diamond from Botswana, along with two outside stones from the "personal collection" of Princess Diana.
