Before you drift off to sleep every night, chances are your body tends to slide into a familiar position.
Believe it or not, the way you sleep -- whether you lie on your side or sprawl out like a starfish -- can tell a lot about your personality. The sleep experts at NECTAR, a leading online mattress brand, revealed what the most common sleeping positions can reveal about the inner depths of your personality -- and their findings are pretty spot on!
The most common sleep positions
The most common sleep positions
One of the most popular sleep positions, the baby sleeps on their side with their legs curled up underneath them in the fetal position. If you are a baby (we’re not calling you names, we swear!), you may have a tough exterior that hides a shy and sensitive nature inside. Sleepers who favor this position tend to be quite personable despite their initial reserved exterior.
A skydiver sleeps on their stomachs, head tilted to one side, with their arms wrapped around a pillow. As the name suggests, skydivers have open-minded, playful and downright fun personalities. They tend to be risk-takers who seek adventure and would certainly be the type to actually go skydiving. Their communication style is usually direct and to-the-point, but can come off as brash in certain situations. They may seem free spirited, but the skydiver can be secretly anxious and crave control underneath it all.
The Shooting Star
The shooting star is statistically the least common sleep style. In other words, it’s truly unique. They lie on their backs, spreading their legs while stretching out each arm over the head. Essentially, these sleepers look like land starfish. People who sleep like this may have an unconventional way of doing things, but they are very loyal friends and make their relationships a top priority. They’re also very supportive and tend to be great listeners and advice-givers.
The soldier sleeps on their back with their arms pointed straight down at their side. They typically have a strong, yet quiet personality and thrive in a structured setting, oftentimes taking life very seriously and in a literal manner. Soldiers have very high expectations for themselves and others around them. While typically rigid and stubborn, these types are often perceived as leaders in various aspects of their lives.
The yearner position is another common sleep position where one sleeps on their side, head slightly off the center of the pillow with their arms stretched out in front of them: think mummy. People who prefer this sleep style tend to be more open and inviting. Yet, they can be suspicious of new friends and acquaintances. They can also be slow to make up their minds or come to a decision, but once they make one, they are unlikely to ever change it.
