Private chef reveals secrets of the royal family's dining habits

If you thought the British Royal Family ate every meal on gold plates while wearing ballgowns, you would only be partially right.

Darren McGrady, was the royal chef who cooked for the Queen, Prince Phillip, Charles and Diana, and William and Harry. He divulged some of the family's secret eating habits to Marie Claire magazine.

Interestingly, Princess Diana would not eat red meat. She did occasionally eat lamb if they were eating with guests, but otherwise, she avoided hamburgers and steak.

That wasn't the case for her sons William and Harry though. Like most kids who grew up in the 80's, these two loved McDonald's. Princess Di encouraged her boys to eat normal 'kid' food -- even royals loved the toys!

As for the Queen, apparently, she can't stand garlic. However, she does indulge in her favorite food, which is dark chocolate, according to McGrady quote: " The darker the chocolate, the better."

Prince Phillip is old school and was very disappointed when he thought some food in the kitchen were treats, but ended up being his son Prince Charles' organic groceries. We wonder if he enjoys McDonald's too...
