A princess of the people: Kate Middleton opens up about mental health in new PSA video

Kate Middleton has kept a low profile since her third pregnancy announcement, but when it comes to mental health and its surrounding stigma—an issue she holds near and dear to her heart—she's anything but quiet.

Yesterday, Duchess Kate, along with the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, released a video to raise awareness of the importance for children and families to openly discuss mental illness in an effort to destigmatize the issue.

The clip opens with Middleton greeting viewers in a blue (regal as hell) coatdress as she defines mental health. She says, "Hello, mental health is how we feel and think. Things that can't really be seen but that affect us every day, and talking about them can feel difficult."

The duchess goes on to highlight the benefits of voicing one's mental health issues and why it's important to lend an ear to those in need. She explained, "It helps us all to talk about our mental health: What to say and who to talk to when we have feelings that are too big to manage on our own and how to listen and help if one of our friends is finding things difficult."

Following K-Middy's intro, the PSA transitions to an animated video featuring a group of students depicted as fingerprints. Viewers are introduced to the difference between small feelings (happiness and anger) and big feelings (depression) and how one character, Jay, struggles to manage her feelings without any help.

"Sometimes it's just a simple conversation that can make things better," Middleton added.

It's good to see our favorite philanthropist back in action and speaking out about a very real and common issue.
