NYFW: Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2018 collection has Nicki Minaj's seal of approval

Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2018 collection has Nick Minaj's seal of approval.

"He brings it every time," said the "No Frauds" hitmaker of the late designer who began the legendary American fashion house. "He's elegant and dope."

Minaj donned a $19,000 black-and-white fur coat from the brand's Fall/Winter 2017 collection for the Monday afternoon show, despite the warm New York City temps. The songstress was one of the many celebs seated front row, with other high-profile figures like Nicky and Paris Hilton in attendance.

Design duo Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, in their second season as co-creative directors for the brand, took inspiration from Sarah Jessica Parker's unforgettable red carpet moment at the 2014 Met Gala when she wore an autographed Oscar gown.

Oscar's distinctive signature is seen imprinted on several ensembles -- tulle cocktail dresses, T-shirts and even a lace-up swimsuit.

The breathtaking show was held at art auction house Southeby's and started off with models walking down the runway clad in paint-splattered ensembles. And in a surprise twist, even denim was present on the catwalk.

"We're trying to open the house to a new type of customer," Garcia told The Hollywood Reporter.

Garcia and Kim did just that with their new collection. Gorgeous dip-dye tulle gowns in vivid hues of pinks and blues have the red carpet written all over them, while oversized blazers and cropped trousers are perfect for the working woman on the go.

The relaunched Oscar script logo that inspired the script seen on several pieces in the Spring 2018 line is also a special touch in the collection.

"We started looking at all the handwritten notes people left to the house, which were always very personal," Garcia said. The notes, from such stars as Elle Fanning and Emma Watson, thanking Oscar for dressing them on the red carpet, inspired a whole scribble motif than ran throughout the collection.
