Skittles ditches iconic rainbow colors for important reason

Updated

For the second year in a row, everyone's favorite rainbow candy is getting rid of its signature colors -- and the reason why may surprise you.

Skittles has stripped itself of its own rainbow to honor the LGBT pride celebrations happening in London over the next few weeks.

"So this is kind of awkward, but we're just gonna go ahead and address the rainbow-colored elephant in the room," wrote the brand in a release last year. "You have the rainbow ... we have the rainbow ... and usually that's just hunky-dory.

"But this Pride, only one rainbow deserves to be the centre of attention—yours. And we're not going to be the ones to steal your rainbow thunder, no siree. That's why this weekend, we're giving up our rainbow."

The brand also released a cute animated video in 2016 to go along with the announcement.

Even though the candies may be missing their vibrant colors for a few weeks, we're sure they'll taste just as sweet.
