Melania Trump's blush silk gown is a fashion departure for her -- and it's getting mixed reviews

The first lady stepped out with President Donald Trump for a reception at the Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C. in honor of President Abraham Lincoln's legacy on Sunday -- and her gown of choice divided critics.

FLOTUS donned a draped silk gown by Monique Lhuillier (with matching pumps), and while some are saying she "stunned," others consider it a "fashion fail" because she "drowned her curves."

Take a look for yourself:

While the gown strays a bit from the belted, waist-accentuating ensembles she's been opting for as of late (see the gallery below for all of her outfits since Inauguration Day), we're not against the first lady experimenting with her style. There's a sense of relaxed elegance in this particular look that we think we can get behind.

Melania's choices are not without careful thought, either. Rumor has it that she's hoping to get "fashion revenge" on designers who refuse to dress her, and that reportedly entails getting boxes of designer garments delivered to Trump Tower daily.

This polarizing, sold-out Lhuillier number costs a whopping $2,595, but that's nothing compared to the $51,500 Dolce & Gabbana jacket with which she raised eyebrows in Sicily at the end of May.
