A ballet-inspired workout with Victoria's Secret Angel Stella Maxwell
Remember when we showed you how to Train like an Angel right before last year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show? While Jasmine and Josephine were hitting the Dogpound gym, many other Angels have made frequent visits to Ballet Beautiful with Mary Helen Bowers (Lily Aldridge and Romee Strijd are big fans!).
We recently got the chance to try a Ballet Beautiful class ourselves, along with Angel Stella Maxwell, to learn how to #SummerLikeAnAngel. Combining the strength, grit and grace it takes to be a dancer, this class isn't necessarily trying to teach you ballet technique, but uses the best elements of dance to tone and train your body. It was hard, that's for sure, but totally worth it.
Besides, who *doesn't* want a dancer's body?
We chatted with Stella afterwards and she told us that it was one of the harder workouts she's done.
"That was pretty tough!" She laughed. "It was a lot more localized. [Mary Helen] really got in there and made it burn, which is great. That's what you want from a workout."
And, same. My legs were already shaking a bit when we spoke (my muscles demanding to know what I'd just done to them!), but seriously. So worth it.
So what does Stella do to workout when she's not doing Ballet Beautiful? It depends on where she is, but the key is that she always tries to keep her body guessing.
"If I'm in LA I'll do more stuff outside with my friends like hikes and camping, or we'll go to the beach and swim or surf. But if I'm in the city, I'll be with my trainer."
"Sometimes," she added, "I'll light some candles in my apartment and have a yoga teacher come over and do a night class."
The weather is finally starting to warm up after a pretty gray May, so we certainly have our minds on the beach. And Stella's advice for getting that coveted beach body is pretty simple, but smart: Eat well, sleep a lot, and drink plenty of water.
"Just cover all of your bases and make sure you're nourished." She said. "I work out nearly every day so I think that really helps -- but an hour a day is a lot for anyone, so it's great if you can incorporate [exercise] into your everyday activities."
As for the class we took together, a dance-inspired workout was the perfect setting for the day because the new Victoria Sport collection is inspired by ballet, too. "It's really feminine and pretty," Stella told us.
"I like that it's really clean with the white and pastels, which is really fun for summer. The dusty pink and light gray colors are really cute to wear on the street as well as while you're working out."
