2017's biggest travel trends, according to Pinterest

Scouring Instagram and Pinterest for serene seaside resorts and jaw-dropping wilderness lookouts can provide endless wanderlust -- and even inspire your next vacation.

Pinterest released its Travel Report 2017, highlighting the top travel trends across the website.

Insights in the report were based on over 175 million monthly global Pinners and more than 3 billion travel Pins, according to Pinterest. Interest in Iceland travel surged 54 percent year over year, while other increasingly popular adventure destinations included ghost towns, swimming holes, adult summer camp and van life.

If you are the type who travels for great food, Pinterest says the top trending cuisines are Nashville hot chicken, third wave coffee shops, Cuban food, London's Borough Market, Aperol spritzes and shakshuka.

Travelers are also no longer content to simply laze on a beach in a lounge chair. Pinterest says searches for 'fitness travel,' journeying to destinations for marathon running or boot camp sessions, have grow 618 percent over the last year.

Many of these insights match up with a previous survey that found this year's top trending destinations and listings, according to Pinterest and Airbnb.
