Hats of all different kinds were worn at Pippa Middleton's wedding

There seems to be no shortage of memorable fashion moments from Pippa Middleton's and James Matthews' wedding, which took place Saturday morning in Englefield, England.

Of course, the bride looked radiant as she walked down the aisle in her Giles Deacon wedding gown with an open back and simple veil. But, if we had to spotlight a style runner-up, hats would definitely be it.

It goes without saying that the English are quite fond of their hats. For the English, hats are a "traditional wedding staple" -- and they are really strict about it, says the Mirror. Especially for a high society wedding like this one, you can expect almost all the guests to be sporting some type of headpiece.

At this morning's nuptials, wedding guests sported hats of all sorts of shapes and colors, fabrics and sizes to the church, including Duchess Kate.

According to the Mirror, the titbits of hat etiquette are quite well known. Guests who choose to wear hats must don one that is smaller than the Mother of the Bride's (aka Carole Middleton). Their hat must also be a bit understated, as to not outshine Pippa.

As you can see from the pictures, both male and female guests arrived in hats -- but the men must remove their top hats once entering the church. Women may choose to do so as well, especially if their hat blocks the view of the other guests.

Furthermore, "both sexes must take care never to show the inner lining of their hat to anyone, especially when taking them off, as this is also disrespectful," said the Mirror.

Duchess Kate, who chose not to be her sister's maid of honor, showed up in a particularly gorgeous and detailed rose hat. Milliner Jane Taylor designed the headpiece, which perfectly complemented her blush Alexander McQueen silhouette.

Likewise, mom Carole Middleton arrived at the church adorned in an extravagant light pink hat and matching dress. She was escorted down the aisle by son James Middleton, chose to go without one.
