There's a legit medical reason Beyoncé's lips look bigger right now

The Internet had a bit of a spaz when recently it appeared that Queen Bee Beyoncé had gotten lip injections. But her publicist was quick to shoot down the rumors, explaining that Bey's larger lips are actually a side effect of her pregnancy. Pregnancy has a reputation for all kinds of side-effects, but swollen lips isn't one we often hear about.

It's very real though. According to Sherry Ross, M.D., ob-gyn and women's health expert at Providence Saint John's Health Center and author of author of She-ology: The Definitive Guide to Women's Intimate Health. Period, "swelling is a normal part of pregnancy, and it happens in just about every part of your body, including your lips," she says. (Both lips: pregnancy can also make your labia larger) Some women also notice that their lips chap or crack more. As for the rest of the face, the appearance can get rounder or more reddish, dark spots will sometimes pop up on the cheeks or forehead, and freckles and moles can get bigger. Due to an increase in oil production, some pregnant women develop acne.

On the bright side, Ross adds, "It's true that women's skin glows during pregnancy as a result of an increase in blood flow and circulation throughout the entire body, including the face." And pregnant women can also look forward to thick, gorgeous hair. "With all the hormonal changes during pregnancy, your hair will grow faster, feel fuller, look shinier, and, overall, be healthier," says Ross. "Taking a vitamin-rich prenatal vitamin also supports great hair during pregnancy."

Kimberlee Bradshaw Archibald, a mom of two kids, told me both her lips and her nose got bigger when she was pregnant. Ross says slight nose growth is also common.

So let's put this rumor officially to rest: Beyoncé's pregnancy really did change her lips, and she's by no means the first person to experience. And, as if she could get any more gorgeous, it looks like she's got a little bit of that pregnancy glow, too.
