13 celebs who wore legit wedding dresses on the red carpet

What's the difference between that walk down the aisle and strutting down the red carpet? Not much to these celebs! Some celebrities have taken to basically raiding the Kleinfeld stock room when award season rolls around, opting to strike a pose in—get this—legit wedding dresses as opposed to the standard couture frocks you'd come to expect to see on the red carpet. Does this mean that it's officially acceptable to start to wear your wedding dress out and about after the big day? Grocery store, here we come! (Wedding aisle, frozen food aisle, again no real difference, TBH...)

From ceremonies and receptions to awards shows and their after-parties, wedding dresses are cropping up everywhere. Remember when you freaked over the idea of shelling out major moolah for a dress you'll only wear once? To hell with that! According to these famous ladies, bridal gowns are no longer limited to just, well, brides. In fact, they're becoming a new red carpet staple.

Just ask Sarah Jessica Parker, who donned a gown from the fall 2017 bridal collection of quintessential wedding dress designer Vera Wang at the Golden Globes this year. Beyoncé has also channeled bridal vibes not once, but twice on the red carpet. At the 2016 Grammy Awards, Queen Bey presented in an Inbal Dror wedding dress straight off the bridal runways. And then later that year at the MTV Video Music Awards, she said "I do" to wedding wear yet again, wearing a sheer Elie Saab number to the VMAs.

Meanwhile, other celebs wanting to get more wear out of their big day frocks have worn their actual wedding dresses on the red carpet, proving themselves to be relatable AF. Keira Knightley has been seen wearing her short, funky wedding dress casually out and about. And after model Liberty Ross tied the knot last year, she recycled her silky slip bridal gown for an Oscars after-party. Y'all are officially our heroes.

Browse all of the celebs who rocked wedding dresses on the red carpet, below. Maybe you'll be inspired to pull that tulle frock out from back of your closet! (To wear where, you ask? Uhhh... Got any award shows coming up?)

Sarah Jessica Parker

At the 2017 Golden Globes, SJP strutted onto the scene wearing a Vera Wang wedding dress, complete with a bejeweled belt and on-trend cold shoulder cut-outs. "This dress represents a modern, minimal, and more architectural interpretation of the gowns in Franco Zeffirelli's film Romeo and Juliet," the designer herself explained to Vogue, stating that Parker first fell in love with the frock when she spotted it on the bridal runways.

Beyoncé

At the 2016 Grammy Awards, Queen Bey wore a vertical crochet lace-paneled wedding dress (originally seen in Inbal Dror's fall 2016 bridal runway show), complete with tulle inserts, collar, and long sleeves. This was one of the first times a frock from the Israeli designer made it onto the red carpet—although, according to Dror, she's always surrounded by celebs! "Every bride is a celebrity," the designer told BRIDES.

Beyoncé (again)

Among the four looks Beyoncé donned at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, one toted MAJOR bridal vibes. The sheer Elie Saab gown included a nude bodysuit, rouged cap long sleeves, a plunging ruffled neckline, and lace detail throughout.

Serena Williams

The tennis superstar is now engaged, but even before she was a bride-to-be, Serena Williams was rocking wedding wear! Williams wore Galia Lahav's "Morgan" wedding dress at an Oscars after-party in 2016.

Kaitlyn Bristowe

From bachelorette to wedding dresses! The engaged reality show star wore an alternative black bridal gown from fan-favorite wedding dress designer Hayley Paige at the Country Music Awards last year.

Liberty Ross

With her new hubby on her arm, model Liberty Ross rewore her wedding dress only a month after tying the knot! After the British model wed music mogul Jimmy Iovine in a silky slip gown on Valentine's Day last year, she recycled the frock at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Liz Hernandez

At the 2015 Met Gala, Access Hollywood correspondent Liz Hernandez wore a whimsical, butterfly-embellished wedding dress straight off of Theia's Spring 2016 bridal runway, according to Glamour.

Kristen Wiig Everyone's

favorite maid of honor turned in her bridesmaid dress for a bridal gown at the 2015 Golden Globes. At the award show, Kristen Wiig wore an off-the-shoulder Delphine Manivet's wedding dress from the designer's fall 2015 collection.

Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley not only wore a wedding dress on the red carpet. She wore her wedding dress on the red carpet! At a 2013 gala, Knightley rewore the powder pink Chanel Houte Couture dress she donned for her nuptials. The thrifty actress also turned heads in the dress at a 2008 bash.

Winona Ryder

Back in 2011, the Stranger Things actress walked down the aisle, err, red carpet in an Alberta Ferretti wedding dress at the SAG Awards.

Angie Harmon

Fashion critics panned actress Angie Harmon's 2011 SAG Awards outfit choice for apparently looking too much like a wedding dress. Turns out, they were right! The princess-y gown is a Monique Lhuillier wedding dress—and we LOVE the pretty-in-pink look!

Kate Hudson

Before she battled Anne Hathaway in a wedding dress in Bride Wars, Kate Hudson wore one on the red carpet. At the 2010 Golden Globes, she wore a silk crepe Marchesa bridal gown with a strapless neckline and structural bodice.

Kyra Sedgwick

Kyra Sedgwick was at the forefront of the bridal gown trend almost a decade ago when she wore a wedding dress to the 2010 SAG Awards. The mermaid gown, accented with gray tulle and a bejeweled brooch, was from Vera Wang's fall 2009 collection.
