If you've noticed your grandparents spending a lot more time playing bridge, it might be because they have more people to play with. There's more grandparents in the U.S. now than ever before, according to The New York Times.

Data from the Census Bureau reveals 4.4 million more grandparents in 2016 than in 2014. Looking back even further, the grandparent population has grown 24 percent in the last 16 years thanks to those baby boomers getting older.

Still, despite the growing numbers, some experts think the number is small. A sociologist at Bowling Green State University said, "We would expect more people reporting to be grandparents because of the aging of the population."

However, Census Bureau projections have fertility on the decline by 2050 because Tinder isn't exactly drawing out the committed type -- which means there will be more people over the age of 65 than under 18.

Not to mention, these over 65 year olds might not be grandparents if their children aren't having children of their own.
