Ivanka Trump reportedly aiming to rebrand image by discontinuing fine jewelry collection

Updated

Ivanka Trump is discontinuing her fine jewelry collection, the brand's president Abigail Klem confirmed on Monday. The news comes on the heels of multiple retailers, like Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, dropping (and in Neiman Marcus' case, restocking and then dropping again), Trump's line from their stores.

Instead of focusing on pieces that cost anywhere from $400 to $25,000, Trump is making room for attainable buys, like her fashion jewelry sold at Lord & Taylor, for example -- perhaps as a way to rebrand the first family's image.

As Vanity Fair puts it, "This decision to discontinue the line reflects an evolution of Ivanka Trump's brand. In the last year, the Trumps have somehow repositioned themselves from the sort of people who live in a Liberace-like triplex to fast-food-eating, approachable bunch that you might see in the lobby of a Holiday Inn, where they would stay during the campaign when their private jet did not take them back to Trump Tower after a day on the trail."

Following the election, the first daughter's fine jewelry made an appearance when she wore an $11,000 bracelet from her namesake line on "60 Minutes," causing people to assume she was using the air time to further promote her brand.

Only time will tell if Trump will start donning her less expensive pieces out and about more often in an effort to more closely relate with everyday Americans.
