NYFW designers share the inspiration behind their Fall 2017 collections

New York Fashion Week officially kicks off today, February 9th, and yes -- the show will go on, even in a massive snow storm. The style set is piling on their chic-est snow gear and braving the weather to see the new collections from fashion's finest -- but you can get a sneak peek right here.

Because while fashion week itself is, quite literally, a week, the work that goes into these collections begins long before that. And often there is one big moment that inspires a designer, or they have a key theme that runs throughout a collection. We asked what those were for Fall.

Below, see and read the inspiration for Fall 2017 from designers like Monique Lhuillier, Oday Shakar, Frame and more.

“I was inspired by a recent trip to see Rothko’s latest exhibition at the Pace Gallery. Rothko’s use of color in his entire body of work is the core of my Fall/Winter 2017 collection.”

“Denim will always be at the heart of our collections, this season we continue to explore the crop flare, rigid fabrics and introduce embellishment with studs to key pieces like the oversized boyfriend jacket and mini skirt.”
La Perla
“Leavers Lace meets RTW ...further melding the lines between inner-wear and outerwear.”
"Decadence" - designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman

"Fall 2017 explores the duality of modern femininity grounded in utilitarian detail. Strong lines are softened by 3-d charismatic ruffles and a luxurious collage of textures. The collection conveys a feminine spirt that merges romanticism with practicality, and embodies a maximalist approach to self-expression."
Oday Shakar
“Out of darkness, the beauty of light transcends”
Cynthia & Xiao
“This collection is all about us.”
Harrison Wong
“Modern monastic.”
“This season we were inspired by Martin Creed’s work on the simple curve, the rhythm, and the lightness of a balloon.”
“This season, we designed a collection rooted in ease. It’s full of energy and individuality, reflective of a time when women’s style seemed effortless.”

We can already tell that the season's shows are going to be the perfect mix of glamour, edginess, and a celebration of American design. Stay tuned with us to see even more coverage as the week -- and eventual month in Paris, London and Milan! -- continues.
